Rock Rivals was the ambitious new drama for ITV1, filmed in the Autumn of 2007, and aired the following Spring in 2008.

The drama series followed the lives of a celebrity married couple Mal and Karina, famous for being judges on X-Factor style show Rock Rivals, and the contestants on the show.

Originally, the show was developed with Simon Cowell and his production company, however, he pulled out later on, citing that he didn’t feel the show didn’t reflect the real drama of shows like X-Factor. The show ran for eight episodes – and in the final episode, two alternative endings were made, and the viewers were encouraged to vote for their preferred finalist – which also changed the outcome of Mal and Karina’s domestic arguments.

Only one series of Rock Rivals was made, and the DVD was released by Universal in 2009.
